Bedwetting is a problem that many of the children or even their parents face every night. Parents with children who are bedwetting must have try their very best to help their children dealing with bedwetting.
FACTS
Children usually start to stop bedwetting at 2, 5 year olds. They start to stop bedwetting at day and then night.
Between the ages of 1-4 years children learn how to notice when their bladders feel full during daytime, and can hold on to the urine (wee) until they get to the right place to let it out (the toilet or a potty). As they grow bigger, their bladder can hold more and more urine, and can hold on to it for longer times.
Most of the children will have the bedwetting problem at night rather than day.
Boys usually will take a longer time to stop bedwetting than girls.
At 5 year olds, around 5 to 10 % children will usually bedwetting once a week.
As children grow from a baby to a school kid, they gradually become better at controlling parts of their body, such as their arms and legs, and this includes their bladder (the part that holds urine or wee).
It is very common among kids who are 6 years old or younger. About 15% of 6-year-olds wet the bed. And about 5% of 10-year-olds wet the bed.
Bedwetting often runs in families: Most kids who wet the bed have a relative that did it, too. If both parents wet the bed when they were young, it’s very likely that their child will as well.
COPING WITH BEDWETTING
Bedwetting usually goes away on its own. But until it does, it can be embarrassing and uncomfortable for your child. So it’s important that you provide support and positive reinforcement during this process.
Remind your child to go to the bathroom one final time before bedtime.
Maybe your doctor will suggest that you try training your bladder to hold more urine by drinking more during the day and holding on for longer times before going to the toilet.
An alarm system that rings when the bed gets wet and teaches the child to respond to bladder sensations at night.
A reward system for dry nights.
