Homework can be one of the ways to help your child to do his/her tasks better in school and it can help the child learn and help the parents to be involved in the child’s education.
You need to show your interest in your child schoolwork and it will show your child that you do treasure the education as it is important. And homework is important too as it will help them in their school success.
Many educators believe that homework is most effective for the majority of children in first through third grades when it does not exceed 20 minutes each school day.

However, parents may sometimes find it is difficult to get your sit with you as you assist them in their homework. They may even refuse to do the homework or even tell you there is no homework in fact there is one, here are some tips hopefully can help you to help your child in their homework.

→  Time
Set a regular time where you can review the school activities with your child. You should set the time which is work for you and your child. For instance, you may want to set the time after dinner. Do not forget to limit the time as for younger kids they may only can sit about 20 to 30 minutes and the older kids may be about 30’ to one hour. You need to help him/her with the time management.

→ Place
Make sure your child and you have a quiet place to be alone doing the homework and other assignments. Do not do the homework in the place where people coming in and out or a place where they can watch TV program. The place must be well-lit too.

→ Stationary, learning tools
Provide your child with the stationary and learning tools that needed to do their homework. Always put them in one place so that it will be easier for your child to reach them.

→ Music
Some children will work well with quiet background music, but loud stereo is not okay. And do not play the loud music too as it will distract the child’s attention.

→ Example
Being a good example to your child is very important as children are more likely to study if they see their parents do writing or reading as they do.

→ Attitude
Be positive about homework. Do not complain about the homework given by the teachers in front of your child. Tell your child how important homework is.

→ Guidance
Guide your child to do their homework, always encourage your child to do the easier task before the harder one. You may help your child to do the homework if the homework needs your role but if it is meant for your child alone you should only give him/her guidance but not the answer.

→ Be informed
If you are not really clear about the task given to your child you may wish to contact his/her teachers to get more details about the task.

→ Praise
Some children will get more excited in doing things if they get praises. So praise your child if he/she can do his/her homework well to reinforce the positive effort.

→ Reward
Children like reward. You may reward your child if he/she has done a difficult task by his/her own but do not reward him/her for every homework that he/she did. Only reward for the task that you think is a hard one so your child will not have the idea that they do the homework for the reward.
